"Mermaid Princess" obtanined "SURPRISE AWARD" due to its marvelous combination of Butoh dance and the narration of the fairy tale in Sapporo Art Festival 2010 (30 performances participated), and the awaited performance was held again in 2011. The show was originally planned for children, and its unusual combination employing Butoh dance at kid's theater was surely a surprising thing together with its artistic appeal.
Kids, most of them younger than 10, were seriously gazing Mika's Butoh silently during the show. Some of their parents and other audiences wept their eyes out after the show.
It surely deserved "SURPRISE AWARD" again.
