| アンベールはスイス連邦立法議会の遣日使節団長に任命され、1863年4月9日に来日。約10か月間滞在し、徳川幕府との間に修交通商条約締結のための交渉を行うかたわら、日本の実情を調査し、その歴史、地理、宗教、社会制度、政治機構、風俗習慣などを帰国後にパリの Le Tour du Monde 誌に記事と挿絵を連載しました。本セットは、その全23部を完全に含む、全6巻のセット。この後、1870年に同じアシェット社から、より精密な見聞記、大型図版を収録した全2巻を刊行した。 |
