バタヴィア、マレーシアを経由して、中国沿岸、香港、福州、黄海を渡り天津、北京、上海を訪

問。さらに琉球、蝦夷地、松前、箱館、下田を訪問、さらにカムチャツカ、シベリア、アムール

川河口を含む詳細記録。日本滞在中、1854年に締結された日米和親条約の状況について

	調査した。ペリー艦隊来日後に続く訪日記録には、開国直後の興味ある出来事が綴られている。
