1799年パリで開かれた"Société des Observateurs de l'homme" (人間観察者協会）の

創設者ジョフレ(Louis Francois Jauffret, 1770-1850)は、青少年向けの自然誌や

歴史書の著作を出し、若者たちを集めてパリ郊外で散策会を開き、「汝を知り、自然を

考えることで若者たちを幸福に導く」という思想で、「人間の自然誌（博物学）の講義を行った。

その協会は後の百科全書派につながる人々であった。

	本書はアフリカ、インド、東洋の地誌の書。折込み地図2点、挿絵多数。
