された英使節アマースト卿を中国に送り届ける途中、琉球に寄港した英国艦アルセスト号に乗

り組んでいた軍医ジョン・マクロードの著作で琉球の自然、歴史、言語、風習や同艦の難破の

記録を含む。本巻の号には19世紀初頭の北方探検や各地への遠征記録に関する論評など

	が多数ある。
