This edition is the sixth publication of the Argonaut Press and is limited to

1050 copies on Japon vellum, this being copy number 566. The original

woodcut appearing on the title page is by William Monk. Boards bowed and

cloth somewhat soiled. Vellum darkened but gilt spine lettering still bright.

Many pages uncut. Large folding map present and in excellent condition.

Contents clean and tight, except for quite small discoloration to very bottom

	corner of pages 317 to 352. A good plus copy.

	カラー口絵（ヴェニスの出航）と11の地図（折込含む）・図版を含む。 イタリアの商人の子に生まれたマルコ・ポーロ（１２５４−１３２４）は、1271年ペルシアから天山南路を経由して元の上都に達し、フビライに仕えて中国各地を歴訪、1290年インド南部を航行し、1295年ヴェネツィアに帰国、「東方見聞録」を後述した。モンゴルの歴史と住民についての見聞を述べたが、日本についての記述もある。本書はフラントンが編纂、解説した書。
