アメリカの作家ジョージ・ワルド・ブラウン(1851-

1930)は、16歳の時から物語や詩を書き始め、主に青少年向けの作品を雑誌に

発表するなど、生涯に極めて多くの著作を出版した。本書には３００以上の豊富な

図版（一部カラー）が掲載され、序文に駐米特命全権公使高平小五郎（男爵、

枢密院顧問官）の日本紹介文がある。
