同協会の「地震研究会議」の第16次報告（図版、折込地図/発生地震の分

布図）及び、ミルンが数年をかけて編纂した「西暦７年から1899年に至る

破壊的地震の要覧」を含む。この要覧はイギリス科学振興協会・地震学

委員会の援助のもとで発行され、世界のほとんどの国から入手した手稿

や出版物からの抜粋を示している。西暦７年中国（西安）の地震から１９

世紀末までの世界各地の地震の記録を網羅。地震の規模を３段階に分

類している。日本に関しては西暦416年（河内）、西暦599年（大和）に始ま
