キクイタダキと同じくらいの大きさでヒタキ類（Flycatcer）で一番小さい全長です．
♂は背が青色ですが，♀は茶色です．♀は下面が淡い黄色です．種Ficedula hodgsoniには2亜種記録されています．
hodgsoni♀の下面の黄色は胸の部分が暗色，sondaica♀は胸から腹まで一様なので，この個体はhodgsoniと判断しました．
