this time of emergency in La Mosquitia. It has not been an easy time, but

we are reassured that we have your support through your generous thoughts,

prayers, and contributions.

Unfortunately, because of the amount of requests for information, we are

not able to respond individually, but hope that the following general

information about La Mosquitia will provide a basic panorama of the current

Main Needs according to Priority

- For immediate emergency/relief: fuel, food, water, helicopters, radios

- For short-term relief: plastic sheets for shelter, water containers,

chlorine, food, medications, mosquito nets, sea/air transport

- For medium-term rehabilitation/reconstruction: seeds, tools, livestock,

technical assistance, health care and education

MOPAWI has been working in channeling resources to the appropriate local

organizations to provide for immediate relief. This has included two

medical brigades in the region, supply of medications, food and clothing.

However, the needs are great, and there are many areas that MOPAWI has not

been able to cover. MOPAWI is also concerned about short-term

reconstruction and rehabilitation, especially in the area of production,

since most people lost their means of subsistence.

Many of you wanted to know how you can help. The attachment explains

briefly MOPAWI's plan of action during this time. Both material and

monetary contributions are very important and necessary to provide a

helping hand to the people of La Mosquitia. Monetary contributions can be
