● 「タスマニアからのメッセージ」です。Message from Tasmania
毎年世界中で、パルプ及び製紙材料として、１０億本以上の木が切られています。アメリカでは年間、１８億枚もの紙おむつが、使い捨てられ、ゴミとして埋め立てられているそうです。それらの紙製品のほとんどは、北米、チリ、ヨーロッパ、シベリア、オーストラリア等の原生林から来ており、広大な原生林は、皆伐され、それによって川は汚染され、固有の植物や動物は失われ生態系は破壊されます。又、そこに住む人々の古来の文化は、破壊されます。原生林でなく、その代替となる原料から作られた製品を使う事が、消費者に求められます。
Ｅvery year, over one hundred billion trees are cut down across the
planet to feed to world's insatiable demand for pulp and paper
products. In the United States, eighteen billion disposable diapers
end up in landfill every year. The majority of the world's paper
products come from the temperate forests of North America, Chile,
Europe, Siberia, and Australia. In each of these places, huge
areas of once pristine forests are clearfelled for products that
are used once and thrown away. In each of these countries the
wishes of the local and indigenous populations continue to be
ignored while rivers are polluted with silt, native plants and
animals wiped out, and whole ecosystems destroyed. The Native
Forest Network continues to advocate the use of alternatives to
native forest logging, of which there are many. It calls on the
consuming public to exercise its right to say NO! and use only
those products which do not
kill our forests, waterways and cultures.
