The ceiling of the western Iwan of the Friday Mosque in Isfahan is
made of exposed piled bricks in three-dimensional form.
This is supposed to be the first example of making the ceiling
of an Iwan into a muqarnas half dome.
It must have been a powerful formation in the early stages,
clearly expressing the transmission of structural stress.
