The Iwan of Ardashir I's Palace in Firuzabad, 3rd century
It was constructed by the Sasanid Empire's King Ardashir (r.226-241).
The large arch spanning 13 meters and its rear semicylindrical vaulted space is
considered as one of the ancestors of the Iwan of later 'Persian-type' mosques.
