５９.桃園川緑道を行く（３）

覆い被さるような緑道の樹木。
かつては玉川上水のような風景が存在していたに違いない。
いまでは想像も出来ないが昭和３０年代の頃は大雨の度に氾濫を繰り返していたそうである。
つまり、それだけ水量があったということか？
しかし、私が物心ついた昭和４０年代初期の桃園川はすでに「どぶ川」と化していた。
むしろ、川の流れのない今の方が
清流のイメージを感じさせてくれるというのは
何とも皮肉な事である。

59. Going Down to Momozono River Green Road (3)

So many trees of the Green Road. Scenery like Tama River must have been seen once.
Today we can hardly imagine that we had floods with every heavy rain in Showa 30s 
(1955-65). That means, the river had enough water to do it?
However, in early Showa 40s, ever since I can remember, it had already changed into 
a “ditch”.
Ironically, the gutter of today without the sound of the flow of water better gives 
us the impression of a pure flow of water than in the past.
