５２.８０mの生け垣

北５丁目の住宅街の中、周囲８０mもある生け垣を発見した。
なんと「杉並区保護生け垣」の掲示板が。
ここは平成元年に指定されている。
保護樹林はいたる所にあるが保護生け垣は初めてだ。
ぐるっと一周８０mもの生け垣が残っているのは見たことがない。
良く刈り込まれているのを見て、これを維持するのも並み大抵のことではなかろう。

52. 80 Meter Hedge

I found a hedge with a circumference that is less than 80 meters in the
residential area of north 5 chome. What is more surprising, it bears a sign 
which says “Suginami Ward Protective Hedge
”. It was specified in 1988.
It was the first time I see and hear of a protective hedge  even though　
protective woods stand everywhere. I’ve never seen such a long hedge which
 remains 80 meters all around. 
Being well-cut, it seems to be not so easy to keep it.
