"Nine steps for the door", -Exposicion La Conquista (侵略者) - 女性大統領の家、建築課のオフィス等を経て、その後７年間使われていなかった邸宅がギャラリーとして改装され、展覧会 "La Conquista (侵略者)" が開催された。 16世紀のスペインによる侵攻以来、独立やメキシコ革命を経た現在でも、一部の富裕層とメスティソ(混血)やインディオとの格差は続いている。 スペインは内乱を利用し、（アステカの圧政に反発する勢力と手を結んで）アステカ帝国を滅亡に追い込んだ。またスペイン人が持ち込んだ疫病も大きな要因だった。また19世紀にはアメリカに内乱を利用され国土の半分を失うことになる。 10月に父が癌で亡くなった。癌細胞は無制限に栄養を使って増殖し、さらには血管新生を促すタンパク質を出すことにより栄養補給となる血管を作り出す。壁面に描いた線は、血管、枝、根、道などをイメージしている。赤い南国の花は、蝶の死骸、あるいはアステカの生贄の心臓を暗示している。その中に、スペインに強制され根付いたキリスト教の蝋燭を灯す。 父は出兵間近に終戦を向かえ、手のひらを返すように親米を促す国家に対し不信を抱いた。無知に対する危機意識から新聞記者となり、死ぬまで学ぶことを続けた。あまりにも強く頑固な父は、少なからず周りのものを翻弄させ、絶縁状態の時もあったが、最後には私の活動にエールを送ってくれた。 子供の頃に父がメキシコ壁画運動の中心人物の一人であったシケイロスの写真を見て感心していたのを思い出しながら、彼等の圧倒的な巨大壁画群を見た。現在メキシコでは自国の歴史や現況に対しる関心が薄れているという。メキシコ美術が、当時のように強い影響力を再び放つ時がくるのだろうか？ "Nine steps for the door", -Exposicion La Conquista- Invasion by Spain in the 16th century. Independence. Mexican Revolution. But the gap between wealthy class and mestizo and Indio still continues. Spain used the internal disturbance (insurgent to repel the tyranny of the Aztec) for conquering an Aztec empire. Another factor has been smallpox that Spaniard brought. And, again, USA used an internal disturbance in the 19th century. As a result, Mexico lost the half of the territory. My father died of cancer in October 2008. The cancer cell creates blood vessels to multiply by oneself. The line which I drew on the wall images the blood vessel, the branch, the root, the way. Those are connecting to the door. The red flower of southern country implies the carcass of the butterfly or the heart as sacrifice of the Aztec. I lighted candle of Christianity which is forced by Spain and took root in Mexico. The title of this work is "Nine steps for the door". 9 means suffering or pain in Japan. And 4(for) means death. We don't know what is waiting at the other side of the door. |
